I wanted to thank you for making our Back to School Night a positive night and allowing our staff to introduce themselves to you. Our next big events will be Homecoming and our Showcase Night on November 3rd, where we are planning to show off our school to our 8th grade families.

Dear Bronco Parents, Students and Friends,

It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new principal of Coast Union High School. I am truly honored and excited to become part of the Bronco community, which has already given me such a warm welcome. In just the few interactions I have had with staff, students and families so far, I can tell this is a unique and special place to live and work.

First, I want to share a little bit about me. For the past twenty years, I was employed with Madera Unified School District in the Central Valley. While there, I was an English/Social Science teacher, an ELD teacher, a Literacy Coach, an ELD Teacher on Special Assignment and a Vice Principal. I decided to become an administrator to make a positive impact on the entire school community as well as to help the staff and students grow as we move into a challenging 21st century.  On a more personal note, I have been married to my wife Stacey, who is an educator, for 19 years and we have 3 children who will be attending school here in CUSD. Kaylee, 15, will be a sophomore, Trent, 14, will be a freshman, and Kaci, 12, will be an 8th grader.

During the summer, the Maintenance crew has been busy on the CUHS campus. We have added 4 portable classrooms, upgraded some of the classrooms, and several of our teachers have participated in professional growth opportunities as they get prepared for the upcoming school year. The district has worked diligently to improve our Career and Technical Education courses by developing and updating the pathways. Also, we are rolling out new Chromebooks for every student here at Coast Union, so as you can see, great things are happening here at Coast.

High school registration will be taking place Wednesday August 17 in the gymnasium. Registration/information packets with all necessary forms will be available beginning Monday August 8th from 8:00 to 2:30 pm at the school office. All forms should be completed and returned on registration day.  Life Touch Photography will be taking pictures on registration day as well.

I want the best for you and for our students and will work tirelessly here at Coast Union High School. I believe that one of the most important aspects of my work as principal is building meaningful relationships with students, families, teachers and the community. That being said, it will be very important for me to be in the classrooms, hallways and the rest of campus, not to mention, the many events put on by CUHS. Again, I am looking forward to the opportunity to get to know you all and to work alongside you and for you. Let’s have a great year. Go Broncos!

Sincerely,

Scott Ferguson, CUHS Principal
