The month of September is a busy month for Ms. Seay, she has already visited all of the seniors and gave them the Sept – Dec senior timeline, financial aid and scholarship information. LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP donations totaled $58,775.00 for our 2012 graduating seniors. I want to personally thank the generous donations from individuals, clubs, organizations and community and county donors. All contributions are important. With this money our students can worry a little less about funding the next chapter of their life. If you are interested in participating in our local scholarship drive please contact Cheryl Seay at 924-2913.

The SAT Test is administered at CUHS three times:
OCT. 6, 2012, MAY 4 & JUNE 1, 2013
The ACT is offered at CUHS twice: October 27, 2012& April 13, 2013
Other ACT & SAT dates are available at different locations. Come into the counseling office or visit the web sites for additional information. (Junior students need to register for one of the college entrance exams this year if they plan on attending a 4 year college right after high school)
PSAT TEST: Sophomores and juniors are encouraged to take the PSAT Test. (Freshman may take the test if they wish.) This is a practice test for the SAT, one of the college entrance exam students may take if they wish to attend a four year college right after high school. (The ACT or SAT is not required for community college acceptance). The cost of the test is $14.00 and the exam is given at CUHS on Wednesday, October 17 in the library starting at 8:10 am. Only 35 tests were ordered so sign-ups are necessary. It is important you get a test reserved as soon as possible. Juniors who take the PSAT may qualify for the National Merit Scholarship. This scholarship is determined by the score the student received on the PSAT exam. (If you have any questions, please contact Cheryl Seay.)
FEE WAIVERS FOR THE ACT& SAT: If your family qualifies for the Free & Reduced Lunch Program your student also qualifies for a testing fee waiver. If you do not qualify, but have extenuating circumstances; please contact Cheryl Seay to confidentially discuss obtaining a fee waiver.
FAFSA PARENT WORKSHOP AT CUHS Library: December 6 English presentation from 6-7pm & Spanish presentation from 7-8 pm
CUHS will host a financial aid workshop in the library to answer questions concerning the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All parents who plan to submit a FAFSA on-line application in January need to attend this informative workshop. It is the responsibility of parents to organize and submit required income tax information. Workshops will be conducted in English and Spanish at separate times. Please plan to attend.
COLLEGE APPLICATIONS, INFORMATION, & SCHOLARSHIPS:
Ms. Seay will meet with seniors to discuss on-line UC/CSU college applications, scholarships, answer college questions, and life after high school plans, and pass out a Senior Timeline (September – December). Parents are encouraged to make an appointment with the counselor if they have questions or concerns.

CUESTA INFORMATION will be available after the counselor attends the annual Cuesta Informational Conference. After the conference the counselor will have information regarding assessment test dates, registration, orientation, and admissions requirements. Information will be distributed to all interested students.
CUESTA COLLEGE NIGHT 2012 will be on Monday, November 5, 6:00 – 8:00PM at Cuesta College Student Center Building 5400. Workshops include financial aid, NCAA eligibility, and writing a personal essay. Meet advisors from UC, CSU, California Community Colleges, private and out-of-state colleges. Hosted by SLO Community Foundation Turning Passion into Action. This web site offers an enormous amount of information. There are free SAT sample questions, mini-tests, test taking strategies, study guides for the PSAT, SAT I & II, AP exams, etc. You are encouraged you to log on and take a look.
