8th. Grade Parent Orientation - Becoming a Bronco
You will have two opportunities to attend an 8th grade parent orientation to Coast Union High School. This orientation is designed to help you and your student make an easy transition to high school.
Topics to be covered:
School policies, graduation requirements, university entrance requirements, course offerings, clubs and activities, and the upcoming freshman orientation opportunities.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION: Seniors will be given local scholarship information prior to winter break. Local scholarship applications are due March 12th. NO late applications will be accepted! Parents, if you would like to learn more about scholarship opportunities please contact Ms. Seay. This is a team effort!
FAFSA: FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID: Information and forms were passed out at the College Planning Workshop and to all seniors in their Government classes. Parent/students should be submitting the FAFSA application on-line starting January 1, 2010. The deadline is March 2, 2010.
CASH FOR COLLEGE NIGHTS: Senior parents who want assistance filling out the FAFSA application need to attend the CASH FOR COLLEGE NIGHT. Financial aid advisers will be on hand to assist you. CUHS Counselors have information on what you need to bring and a complete list of dates/times and locations.
Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Cuesta College SLO, High Tech Center, Building #3400. Again, this information was given to all seniors.
CAL GRANT FORMS: will be distributed to all seniors in their Government or Economics classes right before winter break. These forms must be turned into Ms. Seay or Ms. Duarte, (with a parent signature if a student is not 18 years of age), so that student GPA information can be released to the CA Student Aid Commission for use in the Cal Grant awards. The counselors need the consent forms so they can calculate the information and get it submitted by March 2nd. Remember, to qualify for a Cal Grant parents must submit the FAFSA and GPA verification forms no later than March 2, 2010.
JUNIOR COLLEGE SEARCH & CAREER INFORMATION: Juniors are encouraged to attend weekly Wednesday lunch meetings starting January 20th in the library. Students can bring their lunch and receive guidance on college exploration, careers and future scholarship opportunities.
SOPHOMORE COLLEGE SEARCH & CAREER EXPLORATION: Counselors will begin career exploration activities in English classes after the holidays. Motivated sophomore students can also attend the Wednesday lunch meetings (information above) to get a head start on college and career planning.
SAT TEST DATES: SAT TESTS will be given at CUHS: May 1 & June 5 Go to www.collegeboard.com to sign up and for test dates and deadlines. Juniors need to sign up to take the test this academic year if they are planning on attending a four year college after high school.
Pay attention to registration deadlines!
ACT TEST INFORMATION AVAILABLE: Students can register for the ACT test by going to www.actstudent.org A list of test dates and registration deadlines are available The ACT Test will be given at CUHS on February 6, 2010 (Registration deadline is Jan. 5, 2010)
