CUHS Counseling News:
Becoming a Bronco! You have two opportunities to attend an Incoming Freshman Parent Orientation to Coast Union High School. This orientation is designed to help you and your student make an easy transition to high school.
Topics to be covered include: School policies, CUHS graduation requirements, course offerings, clubs and activities, upcoming Freshman Orientation opportunities, etc.
Please attend one of the following orientations:
February 6, 2012 Cayucos Elementary @ 6:30 pm
February 8, 2012 CUHS Library @ 6:00 pm
The Coast Union High School Guidance Department is offering a summer orientation for incoming freshman. This is a free, voluntary orientation designed to help your student get acquainted with high school. Some important topics that will be covered include: four year planning, CUHS and University graduation requirements, rules and regulations of CUHS, decision making, time management, organizational skills, college planning, how to operate your locker, the bell schedule, etc.
The workshop will be June 15, 2012 from 9:00am – 11:30 am. There will be no bus transportation and the orientation is strictly voluntarily. You must sign-up to attend so materials can be ordered. Please return the bottom portion of this letter to CUHS attention Cheryl Seay. Deadline to sign-up is May 18, 2012. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Seay.
Summer Orientation Registration Form
LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP donations totaled $94,950.00 for our 2011 graduating seniors. I want to personally thank the generous donations from individuals, clubs, organizations and community and county donors. All contributions are important. With this money our students can worry a little less about funding the next chapter of their life. If you are interested in participating in our local scholarship drive please contact Cheryl Seay at 927-3967.
FEE WAIVERS FOR THE ACT& SAT: If your family qualifies for the Free & Reduced Lunch Program your student also qualifies for a testing fee waiver. If you do not qualify, but have extenuating circumstances; please contact Cheryl Seay to confidentially discuss obtaining a fee waiver.
COLLEGE APPLICATIONS, INFORMATION, & SCHOLARSHIPS: Ms. Seay will meet with seniors to discuss on-line UC/CSU college applications, scholarships, answer college questions, and life after high school plans, and pass out a Senior Timeline (September – December). Parents are encouraged to make an appointment with the counselor if they have questions or concerns.
CUESTA INFORMATION: will be available after the counselor attends the annual Cuesta Informational Conference. After the conference the counselor will have information regarding assessment test dates, registration, orientation, and admissions requirements. Information will be distributed to all interested students.
SENIOR PARENTS: If you have any questions concerning the college application process, please feel free to call and make an appointment with the counselor.
www.collegeboard.com:This web site offers an enormous amount of information. There are free SAT sample questions, mini-tests, test taking strategies, study guides for the PSAT, SAT I & II, AP exams, etc. You are encouraged you to log on and take a look.

THE SAT TEST IS ADMINISTERED AT CUHS three times:
OCT. 1, 2011, and MAY 5 & JUNE 2, 2012
The ACT is offered at CUHS once on October 22, 2011
(Students need to register for one of the college entrance exams this year if they plan
on attending a 4 year college right after high school)
