Coast Union High School is nestled in a natural bowl of green pasture land fringed with tall trees, about a mile from the sea near the village of Cambria. It serves a student population of the incorporated coastal communities of Cayucos, Cambria and San Simeon and surrounding areas and has enrollment of approximately 350 students. A Block Schedule has been in use since the 1996-1997 school year with students attending 8 classes, four classes meeting on an alternating odd/even schedule for 85 minute periods.
